Special Emphasis Programs
Special Emphasis Programs (SEP) are an integral part of the NOAA Research EEO/Diversity program. The overall goal of the SEP is to improve employment and advancement opportunities for women, minorities, people with disabilities and Veterans. Three programs are required by regulation: The Federal Women's Program (FWP), The Hispanic Employment Program (HEP), and the Program for People with Disabilities.

Outreach & Recruitment Sources:
NOAA Research conducts short-term and long term recruitment with national and local educational organizations working to increase the representation of special emphasis groups in science related fields. Cultural Awareness Observances:
NOAA Research works with the NOAA EEO Managers committee, employee groups such as the Boulder Labs Diversity Council, and DFEB Committee to host and promote cultural awareness events. Some of the observances include:
  • January - Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday
  • February - Black History Month
  • March - Women's History Month
  • May - National Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month
  • September 15 - October 15 - National Hispanic Heritage Month
  • October - National Disability Employment Awareness Month
  • November - National American Indian Heritage Month
